Just guessing here, Julian, but since the problem doesn't seem to be in
the x0xb0x itself, and he hears it with different drum machines, might
he have something else in his MIDI chain that's causing problems?  For a
real test, he should connect the x0xb0x to the drum machine directly,
with no other equipment attached.
