They are epoxy coated polyester caps.
When they first appeared, they were far superior to the moulded paper caps
of the 1950s.
They are a good relaible cap, but simply because they were used back in the
"golden" days, they have a rep for mucho mojo.

And don't get me started on "tropical fish" caps - save tehm for jewellery
