True, but they make the posting of demos, schematics, etc. very simple.

The raw 10-step with arbitrary steps has a characteristic sound due to the 
strong 5th harmonic.  With smaller and/or wider steps this character is 
less pronounced (for example you can draw a 50/50 square wave).  The step 
approximation to a sawtooth sounds a little different from an actual one, 
but filter it a bit or put it in a mix and you don't notice much difference.
