That interpolating VCO is a bit similar to something that was published in 
Electronics and Music Maker (UK magazine, 1981-1984). If you look at the cct 
diagram in the April 1983 edition (page 97), you'll see a 4051 mux driven 
from a 4046 PLL. I remember taking that design and using 16 instead of 8 
sliders, but needing a LPF to get rid of the clock frequency.

Henry's is a nice improvement on that original and was probably arrived at 
separately anyway.
