Based on my experience writing digital oscillator code for these  
chips, I'd say the signal/noise is usable or ok, but the advantage is  
the simplicity. The on-chip DAC is dead easy to use, so it's a one- 
chip digital audio source. But don't go wasting of your precious bits  
of resolution, 'cos 14-going-on-16 isn't many.
