The dsPIC DAC isn't a really high-performance converter. MCHP quotes 
about 14-bit accuracy, but that depends to a great degree on the kind of 
signals you're generating. Output offset is not well controlled, even if 
you're using an off-chip differential amp to null out common mode.

A dsPIC with a codec would be a hoot. I'm guessing that building a 
decent-quality ADC is probably a greater challenge though, especially 
considering the noisy environment. I wouldn't anticipate we'll see that 
anytime soon. You can get a good external codec for just a few dollars 
though, so it's pretty easy to get audio I/O without too much fuss & 
expense.

USB would be nice to have. MCHP has parts in their 5V PIC24 family that 
include a USB PHY, but nothing in the 3V world, so it may be that the IP 
they've got now isn't compatible with the current generation dsPIC. A 
quick look at their road map doesn't show any USB peripherals planned 
for the near future.
