In-system debugging is a good thing to have access to. I don't use it
every time, but when I do it can really save a lot of fiddling around.

MCHP management sent out a letter last week apologizing for putting so
many of their products on allocation. Apparently the economy is picking
up and they're swamped with orders. They were asking for 8 week advance
notice on parts needs, so it's not surprising that they're getting
stingy with the free samples.
That said, if you need small quantities now you can still get them for
reasonable prices at the usual suspects in the US (Digi-Key, etc). No
idea how available they are from your locale though.
