Firstly, thanks for evreyones initial comments.
On the strength of them, i have begun.
The tutorial i was working from suggested coppying and then modifying existing parts. I couldnt work out how to do that, so i
started from scratch.
I now have my component (a slide switch) and have made the package, the symbol, and have then made the device. All thats fine.
Ive now been messing with it in a schematic and board file.
However, now i want to go and alter some things in the package. Notably, i want to increase the pad sizes.
If i try and edit the package, i get the "package is in use" error. I assumed this ment it was in the scematic and board file, so i
coppied and renamed the whole lib. file, and im still getting the error.
So, what im wondering is -
How do i get to edit this package now?
And, when i can, i didnt initially see any way to increase the pad size.
And... how do i copy 'devices' between libaries?
Another minior irritation is that i seem to have ended up with different names for the symbol, package, and device. Ideally i would
like to name them all the same, but now cant find a way to rename them : (
...but, yeah, appart from these irritations, simpler than i thought it was going to be. So far at least : )
Thanks again,
Julian
