I have bunches of old limited-use sound and noise generator chips.  Things
that go beep  weird stuff.  They don't take much control and are generally
of limited use but very easy to interface.  Not worth spending a lot of time
on, but perfect if you have a quick and dirty MIDI front end you can bolt on
anything sitting still... and ranging from 70's NMOS to 90's CMOS while
they all take 5v signals, most of them specify 8vdc VCC hence the added
regulator.

Thats why I say it was intended for a particular use, but I tried to make it
generic enough for a larger scope as I thought the formfactor could be
useful.
