[sdiy] Are there technical reasons that people use 1/8" jacks?

The capacitance (Or impedance) at audio frequencies or short cable runs
is not really an issue. It becomes important at higher frequencies and
long
cable runs getting into transmission line theory when you are using
things
like BNC plugs which need to have a fairly good match to the cable
used e.g.
50 ohms for RF, 75 ohms for video etc. Even then of course the impedance
can only be defined for a fixed frequency.
