[sdiy] OT: Turnrable pre - converting from moving coil to magnet

I wonder if any of you is into Hi-Fi system modifications...

I just got a Famco "Nuance" preamp which sounds great with my Quad 405 amp. When I connect my turntanle (Sansui SR-5090 + Shure M44E cart.) I hear only low frequency, as if there's a low pass on about 500hz.

I checked the about the and found that the it was designed for moving coil input (where there was a similar model which had moving magnet input). So any suggestion how would I convert the input so it supports moving magnet ? Is this as simple as replacing two resistors ? Or is the entire design inherently different ?

I know it works fine with moving coil input as this is what my friend, who sold it to me, has in hos system, and it always sounded very good !
