In a ring modulator, for each pair of partials f,g that exist in the
modulator and carrier respectively you get f+g and f-g at the output.
What you're hearing is f-g. That f comes from your triangle wave and
is probably above the hearing limit of ~22kHz. Solution: band-limit.
Slew limiting is one possible way of doing this.

Of course, I might be completely wrong.
