Hi Dan,

The 748 is an uncompensated op-amp, pin-compatable with the LM301. Both 
were often used as a comparator in many synth circuits.
If the freq compensation pins 1 and 8, or the "balance" pin 5, are not 
used, you might be fine with any gen-purp op amp. You can certainly use 
an LM301/LM301A in place of the 748 in these synth circuits.
