 > Do yourself a favor: buy the real piano!

One other thing to bear in mind is the room in which you are playing it.
I'm not talking about all those complex acoustic resonances but simply
the size of the room. In my last house our piano, an upright 1950's
Daneman, was situated in a large room with solid misshapen walls -
virtually the whole of the downstairs of a converted Cumbrian
agricultural barn. The piano souned really nice and was a pleasure to play.

Roll forward to today in our new house - a 1970s bungalow. I don't play
the real piano anymore. In its new room, a traditional sized living
room, it's just too loud. Daneman uprights are known for their loudness,
they were normally designed to be played in schools and village halls,
so I guess its no surprise its more forte than piano.

So if you have a small room - you may want to make sure you get a quiet
piano. Or at least see if you get a trial in your own house.
