They are exactly what you think ... I think. :)
It's easy.
Want it to sound like the original, use 1458's. Because they are in the original.
Want it to sound as close to the function the "textbook" shows, use OPA2134, or the latest dual audio opamp from Analog Devices, or
whatever.
I'm totally unbiased here. Customer buys PCB, chooses whatever opamp makes him or her happy!

1458's?
I am unfamiliar with these. Is there another point of reference I
should be thinking of, like are they dual versions of crappy single op
amp I'd recognize.
