Highly likely, I'd have thought. Witness the number of guitar effects  
builders who use carbon resistors for added 'mojo'.

What's happening now with capacitors has already happened with  
resistors. I now use 0.5W 1% metal film for everything. Synth  
schematics that I read often specify 1% tolerance resistors for  
critical values, but otherwise assume 5% or 10%.
