another great source for not only schematics but also full pcb layouts is Ray Wilson's "Music from Outerspace": http://www.musicfromouterspace.com/analogsynth.php?page=ANALOG
as for compatability: almost everyone uses a =/-5v point to point signal level as a standard, so almost all modulars are compatible on the signal level. power is generally either 12 or 15 volt, tho many designs will work on either. connectors: is SDIY, install whatever connectors work with your existing system!
