[sdiy] DIY MicroMoog Ribbon controller repair / replace?

Ok, since it appears that synth repair DIY is not OT, I have a question:

I have a MicroMoog on which the ribbon controller broke the day I bought
it 20 years ago (made the mistake of putting it on the hood of my snow
covered car and the synth just slid off...). It was stored in an attic
after that until last month. I recently had one of the electronics
guru's I work with look at the synth and he did some work, replaced some
capacitors & fixed a few keys that were not playing. He said the ribbon
is internally shorted and he does not know how to fix it. I'm wondering
if it is an easy part to repair or replace, I've seen some cool DIY
projects online for ribbon controllers, but they are not targeted
towards fixing this specific device. I could only find one used Moog
ribbon online and it was fairly expensive, and had to be shipped from
Europe.
