True. In addition to Blacet's Dark Star CHaos, Thomas Henry & Scott
Stites designed a really nice circuit for this IC called SN-Voice. It
works really well, and has just about every bell and whistle.

Chips like the AY-3-8910, YM2413, etc. were meant to be controlled directly by a microprocessor and may be more usable if you want to go this way. There are also good software emulations of both the sound chips and the Z80, which may be convenient for prototyping. At any rate, you should be able to find plenty of music that people have made with any given chip, so you can hear in advance the sorts of sounds you can expect.

In my state of lack of computer I've decided to go ahead and design something based around the Z80 microprocessor set and maybe interface the SN76477 with it. Why the Z80? BG Micro has the CPU and supporting chips for around $15. not bad for a basic computer. There's also five or six really good books on the system here at the NIU library.
