[sdiy] tinyscope re-visited

I'd like to now add my 2 cents.

I purchased both the NKC scope,
http://www.nkcelectronics.com/digital-storage-oscilloscope-very-low-cost.htm
l and the Gabotronics scope,
http://www.gabotronics.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=29 to see
which would work best.

Although the Gabatronics scope has a much bigger display and has more
features, the physical size and layout of the board make it a lot of work to
cram into a Frac space. The PCB is too tall, the pots and switches are
recessed too far, and so the display, pots, switches and other connectors
would have to be de-soldered and re-located. Too much work for this
pea-brain.

So, while I will keep and use the Gabatronic scope (a very cool little
device and Gabriel Annziani was great to work with and I can highly
recommend his little scope) I'm building the NKC into a 3U width Frac Space
along with Scott Juskiw's combination of A440 reference
(http://www.tellun.com/motm/diy/tln867/TLN-867.html) (a'la Dave Brown's cool
little chip and circuit http://www.modularsynthesis.com/a440/A440.htm) and a
head phone amp, and beat frequency led display.

I'm thinking I might make this my first home brew PCB design, or I'll just
cave and wire it all on Scott's MUUB boards that I bought like other have
done.

If anyone wants the panel design such as it is (I've not quite finalized it)
I'm happy to share just drop me an email. I've test fitted the panel
components and it seems to fit fine. I'll post a photo of the panel and the
.FPD file as soon as my web site is back up (my ISP's server is down and I
can't connect to upload new pages).

Anyway, thanks Tom for the ideas and links to resources and the rest of you
for sharing.

David

In a major blast of sickness and insanity, I did it.

Scroll down for blurry photos.

This was more a feat of bullheadedness over usefulness. if I had just gone
with a 6" wide module I could have mounted the scope using all the original
switches, no radical modifications at all and just used the bottom half of
the module for something else, but this got under my skin for some reason.

Yay for me. or something.
