I know what you're talking about and I've seen them on old DEC PDP computer equipment
test gear I used to use when I worked there. The RP06 disk drive alignment and
exerciser tool was built like that. It was a two piece deal, one piece had a metal
pin, the other had a cylindrical hole. You could open the unit and then slide the
top sideways to completely remove it. They were very nice and low profile. I have
no idea what they are/were called, but I know I've seen them. Sorry this wasn't much
help.
