[sdiy] Crosspoint Switch [was: Which programable chip?]

Hey all,
I ordered a sample of HA456 8x8 Analog crosspoint switch from Intersil to see how well that works. Yes, it's technically a video switcher but I don't see why it wouldn't work for audio as well. At least that's what I plan on finding out. It does have a max voltage supply of +/-6V but it shouldn't be too hard to regulate things down to that. Am I right to assume that most audio runs +/-5V, or is that just Thomas Henry's stuff?
