Go check out ISO standards for mains-borne comms.  The old systems  
used frequencies around 140kHz IIRC.

And of course the venerable X10 that's been around for a long time:

I guess you guys haven't heard of HomePlug...?  Linksys, Zyxel,  
Solwise ... all do modules that for AV use support (supposedly) up to  
200Mbps Ethernet.
