Apparently Tim R. found out that it *can* work. But he also found out 
that it does not work reliably. In some units the oscillator won't start 
or stay in relaxation mode (the 4 kHz oscillation). And even in a unit 
that "works" the oscillator may fail to start once in a while. Better 
change the gate to a non-Schmitt trigger type.
