Okay, I soldered the 'working' parts back onto the working board, and now it fails. Snark. I suspected that I was somehow damaging the crystals so I socketed it and installed a fresh part. It now operates! Onto TOG goodness! Thanks to everyone. This is such an awesome group! --timr
