[sdiy] Synth UI [was: Modular - sound or song]

Regarding patch recall - it depends on the complexity of the synth and
the context of use.

I had a Moog Little Phatty for a few days and I thought it was
ridiculous to have patch recall on such a simple synth (I do not play
live synthesizer music). I can whip out a sound on a simple mono
quick; so to me patch storage is unnecessary.

But take the DSI evolver (which I don't really care for sonically
anymore) - something that complex benefits from patch storage.

I remember reading a story by a synth-man named Jim Johnson...he talks
about how he made this crazy-droning-halloween patch on his modular
that does actually frighten some children. In the end he says "I
haven't had the heart to unpatch it yet".

Personally, I get over that "lack of heart" by recording 20 minutes of
the sound to a hard drive!
