[sdiy] Modular - sound or song

That sort of begs the question as to what is a "real song"? One man's white
noise is another man's concerto...
For me, the answer is that whether it be a soft synth with virtual knobbies
or a mammoth wall of buzzing power supplies, diming lights when you turn it
on, a random, self evolving riff of bleeps and buzzes or a Bach concerto,
the sound that comes out is music to the player's ears and a salve for the
soul.
I like the mammoth rack of buzzing, power sucking, module with real knob
that can never really be put in the exact same place again so a patch is
never exactly the same twice.
John Bowen, in talking about why he decided to build a hardware keyboard
implementation of his Solaris plugin, he said (paraphrased) I missed the
feel of turning a real knob to adjust a parameter... or something like that
anyway.

The songs it makes really do sound like real songs. Generally early techno
or industrial or DnB type stuff, but songs none the less.
