[sdiy] Modular - sound or song

For my part, I am very traditional in my musical tastes. I play the modular
and other synthesizers with a couple of different keyboard controllers.
While I have a sequencer, it's used to create background rhythms rather than
"playing" it or letting it be randomly controlled or self evolving like the
Klee sequencer. I typically stay away from random tone modules, although I
do appreciate the utility of a white/pink noise generator for "switched on"
traditional music. My racks are void of dividers or random modules at
present and are full of VCO's, filters, phasers, folders, etc. That may
change, but I doubt it right now.

I prefer to listen to/play a good "switched on" version of Bach or Dave
Brubeck. I'm really not much of a composer (nor really that good on the
keyboard, thank heaven for DAW's and multi track recording :) )

> So what that takes me to.. do you use your modular as a sound generation
device, like a normal synth, that you play w/ a keyboard or sequencer, or do
you use your modular as a semi-random song creation machine?

after the first time I patched it up, that philosophy changed. Now, I almost
always start a patch w/ a clock going to a divider, going to a percussion
module and to some semi-random CV generating module, etc, and build my patch
into a song.
> so, im just curious how others use their modulars.
