It's always difficult with two, often conflicting, disciplines. When
I work in the studio, I'm not interested in gear, I am in musician
mode and reach for tools, hardware or software, which will help me
achieve my musical goal. When something is 'in the mix', the
musicality of the sound is all that's important - whether its
mathematical approximation is flawed or its S/N ratio is poor are just
not an issue. As an electronics engineer however, I am not interested
one bit in soft synths - it's all about electronics and designing/
building the best sounding modules. I feel fortunate that my
electronics purist self doesn't get in the way of my musicianship as
that would be a real problem!
I'm convinced that guys with modular synths were denied a really good
train set when they were younger - I include myself in that category
too :-)
