Right, I knew this was a topic that had to have been covered, many many times.. So, thanks for putting up w/ the repeat question and giving me the short answers!
I like how I got two responses in a row, both referencing A.H., and one says yes, and the other says no :D.
But, I get it, and its sort of what I expected. There are differences, but they are subtle.
These days, its sad but most people don't care about the subtleties. Everyone's using software synths, and listening to low quality compressed musc, through low quality DAC's, etc. I guess that's why a lot of people here found this mailing list.
I must admit, I don't hear much difference between my old 90's analog modeling synth (novation nova) and my modular vco's. When I add in filters, or just about anything else, the modular quickly takes the lead. I guess the nova takes the lead in being in tune.

at least in the context of whether vintage VCOs sound "better" than
modern analogue, digital, or even software oscillators, a good amount
of blind testing etc has been done on the AH list, by Ken Elhardt
amongst others.
the conclusion is always that there isn't much audible difference in
the sound of oscillators.
