Hi Scott,

This subject has been discussed at length in the past.    Some say it's 
inaccuracies in the waveforms.   Some say it's jitter or tuning 
imperfections.   Some say it's voodoo.

One of the list members was actually measuring jitter, etc on his VCOs and 
reporting the results.   Perhaps someone can chime in with the link?    I'm 
sure it's in the archive.

I *can* hear some differences between raw waves of the two VCOs I have 
here... but after filtering I can't really hear a difference.

I think you have officially opened the "can of worms"
