I was going to say the same thing (although I've jumped in even later).
Normally where you don't expect it (like, from memory, RA4 on the
16F627A, which wasn't on the 16F627).
You can also get some odd effects if you use the ICSP pins for some of
the LCD control pins (it is doable though). This certainly does not
sound like this though.
