[sdiy] getting 16 volts AC? and does DC ruin AC circuits?

Hi Dan.

If there are any thrift stores in your area, I've seen a fair number of 
older answering machines and telecom gear in general that used 16V AC 
adapters, so you could try poking around in there. I don't know if 
they'll have the amperage you're after, but it's worth a look if you're 
on a budget.
