[sdiy] getting 16 volts AC? and does DC ruin AC circuits?

If the amplifier creates a dual supply using halfwave rectifiers, it won't work because only one of
the supplies will come up (I'm not saying that it is a dual supply made this way, but it
could/might be.). If the input power connects to an internal transformer it won't work and could
damage the external supply. Hard to say for sure without a schematic whether it might be damaged.
If the input has a transformer, and at such a low input voltage, I'd guess it doesn't, if enough
current were pushed it might heat it up too much. However, if it's a single power supply, it might
actually work with a DC supply, but it has to be wired correctly and be in the correct voltage and
current range.

12V is only 3/4 of 16V. That would be like a brownout on mains from 120v to 90v. It _might_ try
to work, but I wouldn't expect it to work well and it will probably seriously tax the 12VAC xfmr.
