Aluminum is oxidized within seconds of being exposed to air, which is
typical, and why much aluminum isn't used for any sort of electrical
contacting, among other reasons. You apply toner or whatever to a blank
aluminum panel you're actually applying it to the oxide layer on the surface,
as I understand it.
