I dont know how the adhesion of lacquer works out, but aluminium is generally not as easy as other metals to paint, and must be 
primed with etching primers to give a durable finish.

"Painting" aluminium without these sort of primers will result in a finish that can be scratched off with your nail.

Like i say though, i dont know about clear coats.
