Scott Juskiw has turned my string filter into a filter bank, and gets pretty 
good vocal sounds out of it:

But for a dedicated vocoder, I'll go for a different topology. Less bands, 
but more complex filters.
Add don't forget that the filters are just a part of a good vocoder. 
Important, but not the whole thing by far.
