Kurzweil makes a PC2 ribbon that's quite affordable.

You just need to make the controller for it.

It's three separate ribbons.  I did a simple controller for it using 
my CVS module to piece the three ribbons back to a single continuous 
ribbon.  You could do this in dedicated hardware but it's quite 
simple with the Basic stamp.  A low cost version could be made quite 
easily with a PIC or AVR processor.
