[sdiy] IC sockets or not???

I do both...depending...however:

I very rarely have an IC fail. I can't remember the last time that has
actually happened.

Be careful of the socket you use. More expensive is not necessarily
better. Stay away from machine pin sockets. I use an amp socket...but
it has been so long since I have purchased any, I don't remember exactly
which one...but they have dual spring leafs...On the machined
sockets...I have had more of these fail than the ic's that go in them.
