I prefer AMP Diplomate sockets with tin/lead (probably now tin... RoHS)
finish. They have a dual leaf wiping design that gives excellent retention
force. They are also cheap.
The gold sockets are no advantage imho if the IC legs are tin-lead (tin).
The machined sockets don't hold the chips as well.
I've used these sockets in industrial apps where severe vibration is
encountered (uhhh... like next to the bass player, perhaps ??? :^)

breadboards combined !!!)
