I allow 5mils of gap which means for rows of fine pitch pads there is a no soldermask between the pads. I have not had problems hand soldering 0.5mm pitch devices. 5 mils seemed like a good gap that all of the low-cost PCB houses could easily meet. (* jcl *) -- http://www.luciani.org
