[sdiy] FW: earthing??

i am putting in the final power supply for my project. it is a dual 12 or 15 volt supply. (power one)

Now i have been earthing both the case and the PSU off of the earth tab on the AC inlet with no problem all week. But strangely, when i hooked this up today I initially thought the PSU was busted and only after a few hours of troubleshooting did i figure out that it worked fine when  I disconnected the wire from the  instrument CASE (but not from the PSU body)


I WANT to be able to earth the case of the instrument...so any ideas as to what might be going on?

my first thought was that maybe a positive rail or negative rail was touching the panel through a pot but at least on visual inspection this doesent seem to be the case.

(and by the way i AM now soldering my connections to the pins of the pots, not the holes)
