[sdiy] Converting a DC adapter to AC only...?

Well, on the DC adapter I have here I can take either 10v or 13.5v from the secondary, while the unit asks for "12v AC" - can I safely use the 13.5v winding as output, assuming that the rectifier inside the unit can take more than 12v and convert to what it really needs,
or should I better use the 10v as input ?
Thanks
