[sdiy] Anvil Case Foam Rubber - Where to get it?

There has been some good suggestions in this thread and I would like to contribute to that. Even though it seems to be a reasonable assumption that the newer formulations for the denser foams would have greater durability and longer life. But how long will the new foam last and what issues will we have to contend with when it does break down?

Now one solution that I would like to suggest to everybody is to purchase some soft type of fabric which can be used to make a case liner to cover the foam and protect the valuable instrument or hardware. This way, if the foam ever begins to break down or some other unforeseen circumstance occurs, the case contents are protected. I think that a light corduroy or some type of velvety type fabric would make a really nice case liner. Perhaps even a type of terrycloth may be better suited for certain types of items. 

If you don't want to go to all that trouble, might I suggest that you get some lighter weight fabric to make a bag big enough to slip the instrument into before placing inside the case. This will offer some protection to the instruments finish in the event of some mishap. You could even waterproof the outside of the bag to add some additional form of protection.

Well this is just one man's idea regarding this issue. Since there are a number of ingenious and resourceful individuals on this list, there is bound to be other ideas and suggestions around. Does anybody else wish to share their solutions?

The softer polyurethane packing foam I recently ordered for my Chroma

It's $25 for a full sheet, 80" x 72" x 1"  1.3 PCF.  To ship the foam  
sheet, they roll it up, put it in a plastic bag and suck all of the  
air out of it.  The box was about 10" x 10" x 24".
After receiving a sheet of this foam, I think you may need a denser  
foam.  The Chroma touches this foam with a lot of surface area so it  
might be fine. I don't have the old foam to compare it to.  I still  
have to de-gunk my Chroma.

Hmm... Anvil made the original Chroma case.   Here is the current

Ah Ha, They are using 2.0 PCF and 3.8 PCF so my gut feeling that the  
1.3 PCF was a little soft is right.  Also Anvil is using polyester  
foam.  Time for more net searches...
