Here is an idea that some people have touched on for panel graphics.   
This label is on some custom electronics I did and was done by an  
awards / sign shop.  The front panel label is 4" x 4" and was about  
$6.  The panel is black on the surface, white underneath and, I  
believe, it already had "crack and peel" adhesive on the back.  Even  
if a synth panel cost 4 or 5 times as much, it's still a good deal.   
Stick the label on an aluminum panel, drill the holes and you're  
done.  The town that I'm in has a half dozen different shops that do  
this sort of stuff.

(You guys are killing me.  It's been twenty years since I've built  
synth modules and this is making me want to do it again.  :)
