Why not just use a seperate power supply transformer for this one device?
Your device's internal power system is not compatible with the rest of your environment
because your dual supply (+/- 4.5v) implementation creates a signal ground on your
device that isn't zero volts as it is in the others (which is a de facto standard).
To accomodate both AC and DC signals you need to either change the power supply
arrangement inside the device so that signal ground is at zero volts OR you need to use
a separate power transformer for this one device (which isolates the problem from the
rest of the environment).
