[sdiy] DIGISYNTONE/ DM8520??? SCALES FROM DIVIDERS???

reading through electronotes and i was reading about PROGRAMMABLE dividers which when used with a diode matrix, allow for creating scales....they mention a DM8520...long obsolete...any alternatives? any old EN guys on here want to help me open up the divider can of worms?

they keep mentioning something cALLED THE DIGISYNTONE

looking for ways of creating lots of differerent notes...some whole tone, some not.
