Hi Graham,
What you write about Vishay may well be true, but I have an original
Spectrol 148 pot here, and it bears no resemblance in any way to the
Vishay 148 which comes from "Vishay-Spectrol".
If you turned one of these Vishay 148 pots and felt the slop between
the shaft and the resistance element, I think you would agree that
the new pot is unacceptable for any precision use, and nowhere near
as good as the pre-Vishay Spectrol pot.
The old black Spectrol pot is marked "Mexico" and the RS Components
package for the new Vishay pot has "Made in Czech Republic".
I am not trying to generalise beyond my experience with these
particular pots.
