Yep, I second that, convolution reverbs are the thing for high quality, 
realistic reverbs.  I mentioned my favourite ones in a previous post.

Only thing is that they are fairly resource hungry and so therefore 
mostly available just as software plugins.

That said, I do still keep an old 12 bit Lexicon Alex in my rack for 
that lo-fi sound.  It also has a lovely input distortion when over-driven.
