Guys,
Thanks for the help, but none of these worked.
I select a group (even just half a dozen tracks) and click 'ripup' and
it deletes one track.
and I did have the board open at the same time as the schematic (it
does this by default), so I'm at a loss as to why the changes in the
schematic haven't been replicated in the board and why I can't rip up
the tracks.
Even if I rip up the tracks the problem now is that the netlist on
the board doesn't match the netlist on the schematic, do I have to
re-export it or something?

If you edited the schematic without the board open I think an ERC should spot the differences, but you need to manually correct them. If the differences are slight (pinswap or something like this) it is usually better to just rip a few traces and re-route incrementally.
